"Welcome to California"

That's what David says when I tell him what I just paid for gas in the outback of Concord or Orinda ($3.59) , let alone San Francisco, or mention that 20 oz of Cheerios is $5.99. But today they finally got my check right, if you want to think of it as right. That is, they got the raise worked in there and also the $40 backpay from last time when they only got part of the raise, and simultaneously started withholding California instead of Colorado taxes. Net result:
$1.50 an hour more, and my takehome is only $39 more than it was in Colorado.

Not to say there aren't other advantages, of course! And since I haven't got any real living expenses other than car payment and insurance, it's still better than good.
